Why is Denuvo hated by gamers?

This anti-piracy solution has been accused of significantly reducing gaming performance, affecting gamers' experience, including those who have paid royalties.

denuvo is an anti-piracy (DRM) solution that game developers put into their products. For years, gamers have been disappointed about Denuvo because they thought it slowed down the pace in games. This has been confirmed in recent tests.

What is Denuvo?

Denuvo is a digital content management (DRM) solution for game developers. If licensed and integrated into PC games, Denuvo will provide copyright protection. This software is designed to make it difficult for teams to unlock and share game piracy.

According to Denuvo Software Solutions, their solution is capable of preventing reverse engineering and debugging to unlock games.

Although there are no anti-piracy measures that achieve absolute results, Denuvo believes that it can hinder the release of pirated versions for a long time. So gamers will have to buy copyright if they don't want to wait.

Denuvo is not a separate software installed on the computer, users will not see its name appear in the list of installed applications. A game using Denuvo will integrate the source code of this solution into the game source code, when the game is active, Denuvo will run simultaneously. Anyone who wants to unlock the game will have to overcome Denuvo's protection, which makes the process more difficult.

Does Denuvo reduce gaming performance?

True gamers always support the use of copyrighted games as well as copyright protection solutions from developers. But unlike other solutions, Denuvo still faces opposition from customers who pay for the game.

Denuvo Software Solutions thinks this is an unreasonable objection. Their anti-cracking solution does not affect gaming performance nor cause problems for files.

Here's a video that shows Denuvo has an impact on gaming performance. This technology caused some PC systems to be jerky, laggy, and experience worse playing.

Testing game speed before and after removing Denuvo Test results show that, after removing Denuvo from the source code, the game loaded faster and the frame reached higher.

TEKKEN 7 director blamed Denuvo's DRM solution for reducing the performance of this game on PC. This is a rare case where a manufacturer complains about Denuvo, instead of criticizing only the user.

Some other manufacturers decided to remove Denuvo after its release. Extreme Tech's test shows that Denuvo slows down most rated games. Problems encountered include longer load times and reduced frames. Sometimes performance increases up to 50% after the developer deletes Denuvo from the game source code.

Does Denuvo prevent copyright infringement?

Obviously gamers don't like Denuvo, but game makers still use this solution to prevent piracy or at least extend the time to unlock the product.

DOOM was unlocked on its launch date, Sonic Mania was unlocked one week after its launch. But Denuvo has worked very well on Assassin Creed: Origins, this game has stayed stable for 99 days, ensuring the publisher does not lose revenue.
This means that gamers have to buy copyright in the first 3 months, the number ensures the manufacturer has a profit. According to ArsTechnica, most games bring the highest revenue within the first 30 days since its launch.

Therefore, it is understandable that many manufacturers have chosen to integrate Denuvo, even if it affects the experience of true gamers. Thankfully, some manufacturers have removed Denuvo after a period of release. This tool has no meaning after the game has been cracked.

Gamers don't like Denuvo but the manufacturer does

Denuvo has absolutely no benefit for gamers. Worse, it reduces performance when playing games. That means that players need to equip more powerful graphics cards, faster CPUs to be able to play games with the highest settings. Customers with low-profile hardware are the ones most at risk.

In the opposite case, Denuvo itself does not cause problems, the cause comes from the game makers themselves. Maybe they have improperly integrated, resulting in reduced game performance. Anyhow, gamers are the ones who suffer the negative effects.

There is no indication that game makers will stop using Denuvo. Despite the boycott, the player's objections, negative reviews from Steam, the developer is still not too worried. Making more money will make them not hesitate to keep Denuvo in their game.

Hopefully in the future, the solution of Denuvo Software Solutions will continue to do well in anti-unlocking but will not consume too much resources of the computer today.

Not every company uses Denuvo

Of course, there are still many manufacturers who do not use Denuvo. CD Projekt Red does not use any anti-piracy software in The Witcher 3. Everyone can download and play it

"Copyright infringement has no effect, because we can't force everyone to buy games, we can only encourage them. We trust carrots, this is not a tree. sticks ", co-founder CD Projekt Red commented.

Unless many manufacturers think similarly, CD Projekt Red, Denuvo and other anti-cracking solutions will still exist in the near future. I just hope that they will be improved so as not to affect the experience of true gamers.
